Statement from the Executive Committee of the Lexington Democratic Club Welcoming Mayor Zohran Mamdani

Adopted February 24, 2026 by the Lexington Democratic Club Executive Committee:

The Executive Committee of The Lexington Democratic Club congratulates Mayor Zohran Mamdani on becoming New York City’s 112th mayor.  The Mayor’s election victory was historic in multiple ways.  Mayor Mamdani is the city’s first South Asian mayor and first Muslim mayor.  Additionally, over 2.1 million New Yorkers voted in the election - the highest vote total since 1969.  New York City is a diverse and populous city, and it is appropriate that the election results reflected these characteristics.  The Executive Committee wishes the Mayor great success in office, and we extend a warm welcome to him and First Lady Rama Duwaji to Gracie Mansion and the Upper East Side.
