Petition with Lex Club

It’s petitioning season! This is the time of year when YOU can have a HUGE impact on NYC politics by gathering signatures for the Club’s endorsed candidates, ensuring they secure their spot on the ballot.

Lex Club members will be out in force from February 24 through April 2, joined by our candidates, elected officials, and fellow Democrats to cheer us on our way.

There’ll be coffee, snacks, and good company to keep us all energized on the streets. First time petitioning? No problem, we’ll have training and guidance for all volunteers.

Petitioning is one of the most important duties of the Club, and a big reason why many members join - to support candidates they believe in. Added bonus: it’s really fun and rewarding talking to your fellow New Yorkers about local politics!

So please, click below to see the petitioning schedule and sign up for a session (or two, or three, or four….)

We’ll see you on the streets!

2026 Annual Gala Dinner

Julie Menin was elected Speaker of the New York City Council on January 7, 2026. An attorney and civic leader, Speaker Menin has more than three decades of experience in the public and private sectors.

Speaker Menin has proudly represented District 5, which includes parts of the Upper East Side and all of Roosevelt Island, in the Council since January 2022. During her first two terms, the Council passed her legislation to advance universal child care, create an Office of Healthcare Accountability to rein in excessive prices, ease burdens on small businesses by creating a one-shop-stop web portal for city licenses, codify the right to reproductive health care services, and more.

At the same time, Speaker Menin has effectively addressed a full range of constituent issues, including sanitation and rat-mitigation concerns, street safety, unlicensed smoke shops, robust capital funding for district parks and schools, and access to low-cost internet for NYCHA residents.

Prior to her election to the City Council, Speaker Menin served as the city’s 2020 Census Director, achieving a historic result where New York finished first of all major cities. As Commissioner of the Department of Consumer Affairs, she helped implement the Paid Sick Leave Law and launched a new Earned Income Tax Credit initiative that resulted in over $260 million being returned to low-income New Yorkers. In that role, she also spearheaded the creation of NYC Kids RISE, which has now grown college savings accounts totaling more than $44 million for 280,000 public school kindergarteners. Speaker Menin is also a former Commissioner of Media and Entertainment and former adjunct professor at Columbia University who taught on city government.

Speaker Menin earned a Bachelor of Arts degree magna cum laude from Columbia and received her Juris Doctor from Northwestern University School of Law. She resides in Yorkville with her husband and children.

No Kings Rally

March with Lexington Democratic Club at the No Kings rally on Saturday, October 18. We'll meet at 10:30am. The march is 11:00am-1:00pm starting at Father Duffy Square, W 47th St & 7th Ave. Please RSVP, and we will send you the meeting location closer to the date.

NO KINGS is a national day of action and mass mobilization in response to the increasing authoritarian excesses and corruption of the Trump administration. We’ve watched as they’ve cracked down on free speech, detained people for their political positions, threatened to deport American citizens, and defied the courts. They’ve done this all while continuing to serve and enrich their billionaire allies. They think they rule—but we are bigger than even their worst aspirations.

  • Donald Trump is planning a military parade in Washington, D.C. on June 14. This display of might is intended to intimidate opponents and solidify his image as a strongman on our dime—we won’t stand by while that happens.

  • Instead of allowing this military parade to be the center of gravity, we will make action everywhere else the story of America that day: people coming together in communities across the country to reject strongman politics and corruption.

  • Alongside local organizers, partners, and leaders from across the pro-democracy & pro-worker movement, we will demonstrate organized people power that outpaces any authoritarian aspirations.
